BRAINWAVZ S5
BRAINWAVZ is an enterprise that has its headquarter in Hong Kong. It was born in 2008 with the mission of producing headsets with a price-value ratio unknown to the competitors. Today it offers a wide range of products that includes earphones and headphones, a series of accessories and the newest product is a small portable power amplifier that we are going to review soon.
The S5 earphones belong to the top of the range of the BRAINWAVZ catalogue. The price ranges from 99 USD to 80 euros. They can be bought online on Amazon or on other websites that can be found in the dedicated page on the producer’s website.
The S5 were shipped from Hong Kong and the first thing I noticed with surprise was the packaging: it is very refined and contains the earphones and a whole range of very useful accessories.
The hard case included is semi rigid and is very useful. It is black and has zipped pouches.
In the box we find an 1¼” jack adaptor and many tips: a couple in foam, 3 in silicon in different sizes, one in silicon with 2 flanges and one with 3 flanges.
The product has a 24 months warranty.

While writing these notes I am not at home. Technology helps us and I can write on my smartphone on Google Drive while listening to Beethoven’s 4th and 5th Symphonies directed by Osmo Vanska on SACD, that I have uploaded on my smartphone (the CD layer of course).
The result is excellent for a product that has a large scale retail price and not a High End price. The orchestra has a delicate and balanced sound with a low range that is captivating and soft but never annoying. The strings are correct and the listener is involved in a listening that seemed impossible for quality and comfort only few years ago.
After a few tests I decided to use the foam tips that are less comfortable than the silicon ones but give a better insulation from the external noises and a very good result for the low range.
The listening of the beloved Mercedes Sosa recreates the long echoes of the recordings and the incredible voice of the lamented “Negra”. There are all the elements for a high quality listening: the volume is high enough also for listenings in a noisy environment, thanks to the earphones sensitivity and to the dumping.
The high range is extended, rich in details but never too much, even at a high volume.
The “The Ghosts of Tom Joad” record by Brucwe Springsteen highlights the attitude of these S5s. They are warm, the medium range is sometimes dominated by the medium-low but not too much. It is very similar to the sound we like to have in our cars, an embracing low range that is preferable to a more linear sound.
While listening to Sara Vaughan with “April in Paris” I realize how much these earphones are fit for music. They are never annoying even when the volume is at its maximum.
These earphones are absolutely recommended. Your listenings on the run will have a better quality but you won’t have to wear big and heavy headphones that sometimes are funny when worn while walking around the city. The complete collection of accessories that is included makes these earphones comfortable for everyone, both male and female.
Have a nice listening.
