Care Orchestra Divina Supreme
We have many components to review in these days and for us is a real pleasure. The Hi-Fi market is a niche market but it’s not static at all. Producers try to attract new clients with new models, partecipate to hi-fi events and send their new models to magazines to have a review. The producers that are more attentive survive well even if nowadays things are not great. As it always happens in all the markets there is space for everyone and those that work better continue to prosper and beat the competition so the future seems brighter to them. Some producers do not sell anymore but others seem to flourish thanks to new marketing models, original projects and new messages that match the signals that come from the public.
Audio-activity is paying a lot of attention to start-up and young enterprises that renew an old and somehow static market with their presence
It is wrong to keep on telling the same things on blogs and forums. It is enough to have a more open mentality and to look around without suspicion for all that is new and unknown. Many people still admire brands that have been doomed by the history of the last 50 years. Sometimes people judge simply looking at an online picture of a component, isn’t it crazy?
New enterprises that deal with electronics and loudspeakers are established almost every day in many different Countries of the world. Some of them produce innovative items while others concentrate on lifestyle, some sell at extremely high prices and others sell their products very cheap. What really matters is to attract the attention of the media and the public and publicize the brand. Internet is very useful in this scenario, once there were only paper magazines and it took at least one month to have fresh news. For those that visited regularly Hi-Fi shops there was only the chance to see the products that the shop owner had decided to show. The only way to keep updated was to go to Hi-Fi fair trades every year in order to see the latest products. The world’s different now and keeps on changing at a very fast pace.
On-line magazines nowadays bring to you all the newest devices and inform you day by day about all the innovations in this sector. Many dealers send us the latest news as soon as they have them and we publish them straight away. Holidays don’t exist any more and what we do is global nowadays. We get news 24/7 from everywhere in the world and we have to evaluate them, choose them and finally publish them.

Care Orchestra is one of the Italian enterprises that stands out and for our reader I am sure it is not a surprise.
We have now their top level device to review. As you probably remember we have already spoken about this dynamic enterprise from Milan -that loves to define itself “ Italian Acoustic High fashion”. It is a very original definition that gives exactly the idea of what is behind this business. The only limit they have is the imagination of the client.
The Divina line is composed of a bookshelf loudspeaker called Monitor - that we have reviewed in the past - and of a floor standing loudspeaker that we are going to review now.
It is a 3 way loudspeaker with a slim line bending in the upper part and with high quality drivers made by Scan-Speak. The woofer is a 180 mm Revelator with a paper cone and loaded in bass-reflex, the midrange is a 120 mm Illuminator with neodymium magnet. The tweeter belongs to the Illuminator line and is a soft dome with neodymium magnet. The speaker has a declared frequency response of 36 - 38. 000 Hz, with a 4 Ohm impedance and 90 dB sensitivity. The crossover, an electrical second order, cuts frequencies at 400 Hz and 2900 Hz. The bass enclosure volume is 39 liters and the separated enclosure of the medium-high range is 10 liters. The weight is 35 kilos for each speaker and the high quality connectors accept bare cables and banana plugs. The front panel is asymmetrical and not parallel to the rear panel. Also the upper and lower panels are not parallel. The internal wiring uses Van Den Hul Unipolar Copper OFC Silvery Hullyflex 3,3 mmq (157 wires) 300V.
The crossover uses ultra speed audiophile capacitors with a maximum tolerance of 5% and 2% Metaloxide resistances and very pure copper coils.
The Supreme loudspeakers have been connected to the following system: turntable Basis 2001, tonearm Graham 2.2, cartridge Scan Tech Lyra Helikon, phono preamplifier: Einstein "The Turntable's Choice", CD/SACD player dCS Puccini + Puccini U-Clock, preamplifier: MBL 4006, power amplifiers: Bryston 7B ST mono, loudspeakers: JBL 4350B, interconnect cables: MIT Oracle MA-X Proline, MIT Shotgun S2 RCA, Transparent Super XLR, Transparent Super RCA, LAT International XLR, loudspeaker cables: MIT Magnum MA, Vovox Initio, power cables: MIT Shotgun AC 1, Black Noise Pearl and others DIY, mains distributor: Lector Edison 230/8, mains filter: Black Noise 2500.

The first record is Haendel’s Messiah
(Philips) performed by London SymphonyOrchestra & Choir directed
by Colin Davis. The tenor in “Every Valley” comes out with
vehemence and realism from the small midrange. The choir that follows
is big and proportioned to the global orchestral set. In fact the
orchestra has the right dimension and is not too big or overwhelming.
The instruments are airy and the low keys are balanced and do not
hide the other instruments. This recording is very balanced and these
loudspeakers treat it in the right way and do not add anything to it.
Few facts on this record: it is a Dutch pressing but I bought it in a
big shop in Tennessee few years ago that I am afraid closed down
shortly after.
And now the SACD of L'Apprenti Sorcier by Paul Dukas (Pentatone), performed by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, directed by Marc Albrecht. These Care Orchestra loudspeakers demonstrate straight away that they know how to manage all the small contrasts and the minimum details that are the background of the music scene.
The soundstage is large and deep enough to give an impression of realism in a condition of close listening of the performance. Triangle and percussions that insist on the tweeter are tangible but airy while the woofers are clear and alright even when the volume is very high.
High quality of the speakers is very clear and the design of the whole project takes advantage of it. The dramatic atmosphere of the “mop march” is performed very well by the big orchestra and consequently by our loudspeakers. In the same SACD I want to point out Charles Koechlin’s composition titled “Les Bandar-Log”, a composition that must be listened to carefully. This composition is based on the Jungle Book by Kipling. Is a very interesting piece of music and the recording is fantastic. The low range is a bit too evidenced as it often happens with Pentatone, and the song results very pompous losing a little bit of its naturalness.

Billie Holiday singing Satin Lady in Satin SACD is a real pleasure for my ears. The singer’s voice is really emotioning and loaded of feelings and this Care Orchestra let the us perceive the soul of this recording. The double bass is controlled and its notes are just as long as they should be. Generally speaking the high resolution of the mid range is nicely evidenced while woofers are precise so the lower range is deep but controlled and with Revelator cones of this diameter it is not so common.
The type of sound that Care Orchestra designers wanted for this model envisages an upper range very easy to listen and slightly diminished if compared to the medium high range. And this may be very convenient especially for long listening sessions or with electronics that have a bright sound. Scan-Speak have a good power handling, while the loudspeakers’ sensitivity is in the average so that the Supreme can be used also with medium powered amplifiers.
For realistic-like listenings though, at least 100 W for channel are suggested. Despite the small diameter of the medium and low range drivers, these loudspeakers play well also at high volumes with no distortions. At listening volumes above the average the quality of the sound remains good.
Once again this young enterprise from Milan did a very good job that remains original both for the design and the sound.
The look of these loudspeakers is original but not extravagant so that in the years it is not likely for you to get tired of them.
The price may seem high if you do not consider the fact that these are handcrafted items and and that they are entirely made in Italy.
Listen to them carefully, this is my advice.
