Lector Edison 230
We are all so experienced, that I am not sure there is the
need to discuss the importance of a clean AC source for our Hi-Fi systems. But
if you visit audiophile houses and/or read their fears and anguishes in the
web, you'll find out it is necessary. It is not hard to understand that from
our systems - expensive or not - comes out electricity that is modulated by the
sources and the amplification. This
electricity is then transformed into a mechanic movement by the loudspeakers. So,
it is extremely important to put into our electronics just what is contained in
the media. In fact, all noises will be treated as any other signal and will be
amplified together with our music. Noises come from the outside but also, and
more frequently, from the appliances that we have in our homes. The switching
power supply of our computers, flat screen TVs, DVD readers or light intensity dimmers
are all possible sources of noises. Many times there are hums in the
transformers - especially when toroidal - of our electronics. These are caused
by DC that may come from our appliances or from transients in the electrical
network. Sources of DC are also halogen lamps with dimmers, computers, AC,
water heaters without a perfect insulation, satellite decoders, switching
power supplies, ground loops due to interconnections in multiple sockets,
magnetic fluxes coming from other sources. Lector, an enterprise whose
seriousness is internationally acknowledged, has created a filter to solve
electric interference problems. It is put in a eight slot socket that does not
change the original sinusoidal wave and does not limit the dynamics of the
devices connected. This product is called Edison - 230 in Europe, where the number indicates the voltage.
I must
confess that when I bought this filter I had not thought about writing about
it. I wasn't even convinced about its effectiveness, in a network that I
thought was almost perfect and that was already filtered by a
Blacknoise 2500 that I posses since a very long time. I needed an eight slot
socket to replace the old one I had, I needed it strong and of a good quality. I
saw this socket in Munich in the Lector stand, I asked for
the price and bought it straight away without even trying it.
A few months have passed but I haven't tested it properly yet. I feel a sort of repulsion for the listening tests of the accessories. Anyway I can state what follows: the humming of the Bryston’s transformers, that was audible in the silence, has completely disappeared.
The performances of the system are more stable and seem to be less depending from the AC supplier. Electronics seem less noisy, less intrusive when music is playing.
Well, this is what I have experienced in my system, I am sorry if I haven't had a mystic vision or experienced something incredible. I have noticed a general effect of cleaning and I can assure you that is not a small result. Let me now describe in details the Edison: it is a mains distributor with eight multiple standard slots (Schuko and 6A Italian style) with a high power cable and a 16A IEC input connector, and a Schuko plug. This device protects the electronics from power spikes and short circuits with a circuit that can be reactivate with a simple switch positioned on the back. The plugs are filtered with two separate circuits, for high or low power devices. The internal cabling is star grounded.
All in all this Edison works, and works really well in my system. It is a purchase that you will not regret even when you are convinced, like I was, that your system is close to perfection. Highly recommended!
