"Doctor, now I know why!"
" Why you came to see me?" the doctor asks.
"Right! Now I know why!"
" Well, I guess you don't need me any more now" the doctor continues.
"Yes, I was about to say it! Now everything is clear in my mind!"

This is the imaginary conversation that might have happened between my psychoanalyst and me right after listening to the new single of the Muse. During the whole summer the radio stations played obsessively a song that announced the release of their new CD. The more I listened to it the more I was bewildered. I was convinced that all the DJs either had some serious problems because they announced it with an odd emphasis or they were simply reading the press release that the record label enclosed to the track. The track involved is Panic Station. I thought that this was not a song that matched up the other songs that the Muse produced. This song presents choruses in falsetto and a sound half way between glamorous pop and bad disco music. Last week I had the chance to listen many times to the whole CD and I realized that Panic Station is just a weird track, it is the typical song that is released to attract people's attention, only lure. The Muse I have known and appreciated (see the review of the former CD of the Muse http://medicineman-export.blogspot.it/search?q=Muse) are present in this CD and they show their usual force and great acoustic ideas. They draw liberally on the history of the British music of the 70's with quotes from the Pink Floyds, the Queen (of which they are the post atomic version in my opinion), of Bowie.
Now I feel better, I have not deleted the file and I invite everyone to listen to it!

Antonio "medicineman" Musotto
